A note from Mrs. Killpack:
Social Studies book report!
Be sure to find a book before deciding on the person.
Hall Of History- Please plan to come to school on Friday, Feb. 22 to see your child become a famous American!
1:30-2:00 in the second grade hall or in your child's classroom
Your child should select a famous American (modern sports heroes are included), read a book about the person, make a poster including the name, 5 facts and pictures. Be sure to send the book to school because we will be reading and collecting facts in class.
Please send the posters now if they are done.
Then on Feb. 22 the students will become wax figures in the hall. When you press the button on their hands they will come alive and say the memorized facts they have learned about their person. They should say their speech in the first person. For example, “Hello, I am George Washington. You have seen me on the one dollar bill and the quarter. I was a general in the …” The facts can be on the poster to help them remember what they want to say.
Then they will freeze until the button is pushed again. Have your child bring something that will help them look like the person they are representing. They will change into their “costumes” after lunch. Please use poster board not presentation boards or foam board. If your child can read chapter books please try to find a book that is challenging. You can also read the book to your child.
